Stabbing closes St Kilda East synagogue

Police are hunting for a man over a stabbing at a synagogue in St Kilda East.

The incident, shortly after noon on Saturday, sent the Yeshivah Centre synagogue in Hotham Street into lockdown for about an hour.

A man in his 20s with abdominal injuries was taken to The Alfred hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Police say the exact circumstances of the incident remain unknown but they believe the men are known to each other.
