Yaakov Amidror, former adviser to Israeli PM, optimistic ahead of US election

Is Israel rooting for Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton to win the US election?

Retired Major-General Yaakov Amidror, a former national security adviser to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, won’t indicate a preference either way, but says that while both candidates lack clear policies, “we know what we don’t know about Trump, we are not sure [what we don’t know] about the policy of Clinton”.

General Amidror, who stepped down from his Israeli government post in 2013, sat down for an interview with Fairfax Media on his visit to Melbourne last week. He has been heading a group of senior analysts and experts here to exchange ideas about how Israel and Australia can build closer ties in the military and cyber security sectors.

General Amidror says Israel will have two months before the presidential inauguration to glean more details about the policies of either candidate.
