AUSTRALIAN terrorist Neil Prakash is set to appear in a Turkish court, where he is expected to face charges over his role as a senior recruiter for terror group Islamic State.
News Corp Australia understands Turkish authorities have decided to put Prakash, who has been held in a maximum-security jail cell since he was arrested on October 24, before a court at a yet-to-be-revealed date.
It’s understood the court appearance is a simple procedural matter.
It’s thought that any charges to be levelled against him will likely be ones laid by Turkish authorities, who arrested the former Melbourne man in the central city of Inali after a tip-off from Australian security agencies.
If so, that will make it likely that Australia, which lodged an application to extradite Prakash last year, will have to wait until the Turkish judicial system is finished with him — a process which could take years.
Further, it is understood that Prakash, 25, is being entirely uncooperative and refusing to answer any questions from authorities seeking to question him over his activities supporting Islamic State.
