Palestinian activist Laila El-Haddad arrives in Melbourne

As soon as Laila El-Haddad arrived in Australia the ABC’s Lindy Burns managed to corral this Palestinian activist,  who uses her culinary skills to spin a human interest story about the people of Gaza.

El-Haddad has been brought to Australia by the Australian Jewish Democratic Society (AJDS) who are viewed by many in the Jewish community as pariahs.

No doubt El-Haddad will charm and disarm many who don’t appreciate what is her underlying agenda. A take on her by BBC Watch is illuminating.

The interviewer Lindy Burns wants to avoid the harsh realities of the political conflict that is almost intractable. Strangely she uses the analogy of the Holocaust to connect with the human stories and suffering that exist behind every struggle.

Here is the interview by Lindy Burns with Laila El-Haddad on the ABC Radio Evenings program.
