Hamas softens stance in new policy document

The Palestinian militant group Hamas has published a new policy document, the first since its controversial founding charter in 1988.

The new document for the first time declares a willingness to accept an interim Palestinian state within pre-1967 boundaries.

But Hamas stops short of recognising Israel, and the Israeli government has dismissed the new policy as a public relations stunt.
