Intercultural group leader calls on Muslims to examine themselves in age of terror

A PROMINENT Muslim has challenged the Islamic community to hold “a mirror to ourselves” in the era of terrorism.

Australian Intercultural Society executive director Ahmet Keskin called on Muslims to continually uphold human rights and advocate for the rule of law and “incessantly promote equality”.

Mr Keskin made the comments last night at an Islamic Iftar dinner in the city while unaware that a terrorist attack was playing out in Brighton.

Among all the speakers at the event including state MPs and a federal human rights commission member, Mr Keskin was the only one who challenged Muslims to do more soul-searching in the context of terror attacks.

“We Muslims need to work much harder in building bridges between hearts and keep the dialogue going,” he said.
