Andrew Bolt: Hatred of Israel is driven by votes

WHY would Labor sell out Jews and encourage the Islamist terrorists running parts of Palestine? Why is the NSW Labor conference likely this month to demand the next Labor government ditch Israel and recognise Palestine as a country?

For Labor politicians the maths is particularly important: of the 15 federal electorates with the biggest Arab minorities, Labor holds 13, nine in NSW.

The western Sydney seat of Blaxland, held by frontbencher Jason Clare, has an astonishing proportion of voters of Arab descent — 19.5 per cent. The neighbouring seat of Watson, held by frontbencher Tony Burke, is next with 18 per cent.

There aren’t votes now on the Left in defending Israel, the one genuine democracy in the Middle East. And so former foreign affairs minister Bob Carr is leading a push to get Palestine recognised as a country. I’m not suggesting Carr supports extremists, but which Palestine does Labor want to help? The West Bank part, under the loose control of President Mahmoud Abbas, elected 12 years ago to a four-year term? Or the Gaza Strip, run by the terrorists of Hamas, whose charter declares Israel must be destroyed, quotes the Koran foretelling when “Muslims will fight the Jews and kill them” and accuses Jews of being “behind World War II … (and) behind the drug trade and alcoholism”.
