Backlash over anti-Supercars Facebook post that compared East End difficulties with the Jewish people’s plight under the Nazis

“Stupid” and “ludicrous” were among the words a Newcastle Jewish leader used to describe an inflammatory social media post that compared the difficulties of East End residents in the Supercars zone with the plight of Jews persecuted under the Nazis.

There was widespread outrage on Tuesday after a Facebook post on the Newcastle East Heritage Zone Not Supercar Zone page claimed that “both groups are denied their civil liberties and property rights”.

The post included black and white images of Jewish people wearing the Star of David.

“What do the Jews under the Nazis and Newcastle Easts under Supercars [sic] rule have in common,” said the post, which was published at about 6pm on Monday.

“You guessed it both groups are denied their civil liberties and property rights. And they both had to be accredited to do anything.”
