Eric Abetz says Macklemore fans ‘supporting singer’s ugly side’

Liberal MP Eric Abetz says people who embraced rap star Macklemore at the NRL grand final unwittingly supported his “ugly side”, which includes anti-semitism and his claim the 9/11 terror attack was committed by George W Bush.

The conservative Tasmanian said this morning he did not watch Macklemore perform on rugby league’s big night because he was “not much of an NRL follower or watcher”.

But he remained critical of the NRL for choosing the US rapper as the grand final’s pre-match entertainment.

“I think we’ve moved on from the NRL situation, albeit those who have embraced Macklemore have unwittingly embraced the ugly side of Macklemore which is the anti-semitism and his belief that somehow 9/11 was a George Bush insider job,” Senator Abetz told Sky News.
