Bible could rewrite Egyptian history after mysterious event explained

A new study has revealed a mysterious event mentioned in the Bible was actually the oldest solar eclipse ever recorded.

A mysterious event described in the Old Testament Book of Joshua is now said to refer to an eclipse on October 30, 1207BC.

This potentially impacts the dates of Egyptian pharaohs.

In the King James Bible, after Joshua led the Israelites into Canaan, he prayed: “Sun, stand still at Gibeon, and Moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.

“And the Sun stood still, and the Moon stopped, until the nation took vengeance on their enemies.”

Cambridge University professors believe the passage refers to a solar eclipse that took place on October 30, 1207 BC when Pharaoh Merneptah was waging war against the people of Israel in Canaan.

The new interpretation of the passage comes after researchers analysed an ancient Hebrew text which suggested the sun and the moon “stopped shining”.
