Principal accused of 74 child sex charges may not face court

THE former principal of Melbourne’s Adass Israel School may not face 74 child sex charges following an Israeli court’s ruling she is mentally unfit to be extradited.

Malka Leifer is wanted in Victoria on a range of charges including the alleged indecent assault and rape of female students.

The teacher fled Australia in 2008 when accusations first emerged.

Judge Amnon Cohen ruled on Thursday that Ms Leifer did not have to face a hearing until she completed psychiatric treatment.

The prosecutor will appeal the decision.
