Ivanka Trump calls for religious tolerance as Jewish community centres threatened

Ivanka Trump, U.S. President Donald Trump’s daughter, has called for religious tolerance after a number threats were made against Jewish community centres around the country.

Issuing a statement on Twitter, Ivanka weighed into the debate in her most vocal statement since her father became President. It’s an issue she clearly feels personally about as Ivanka converted to Judaism before marrying her husband Jared Kushner, who is an Orthodox Jew.

“America is a nation built on the principle of religious tolerance. We must protect our houses of worship and religious centres,” Ivanka wrote on Monday.

On Monday, eleven Jewish community centres were threatened with bomb scares. Community centres were evacuated but the threats were eventually deemed hoaxes.

Trump’s administration released a statement following the threats, saying “hatred and hate-motivated violence of any kind have no place in a country founded on the promise of individual freedom.”
