Pro-Palestinian protesters face off against Trump supporters in Melbourne CBD

HUNDREDS of people gathered in Melbourne’s CBD this evening to protest the United States’ decision to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Several hundred protesters gathered outside the State Library from 6pm where they condemned US President Donald Trump and waved Palestinian flags.

A dozen counter-protesters waved Israeli flags, displayed posters featuring Mr Trump’s head and held signs that said “make Jerusalem great again”.

Right-wing Jewish activist and gym owner Avi Yemini led the pro-Trump group, which was separated from the larger crowd by a massive police cordon.

Mr Yemini praised Mr Trump before playing the Australian national anthem.
