US vetoes UN Security Council’s resolution rejecting Trump’s Jerusalem decision

It’s been less than a fortnight since the US President Donald Trump announced that he’d recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and move the US embassy to the city.

But overnight, the UN Security Council voted on a draft resolution requiring the US to rescind its declaration.

Fourteen of the Council’s 15 members — including key US allies Britain, France and Italy — voted in favour of the motion that would have acknowledged Jerusalem’s contested status.

But the US vetoed it.
