‘I leave the Middle East unable to comprehend what we’ve allowed the world to become’

The White House will roll out the red carpet today for Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince who’s in Washington this week to meet with US President Donald Trump.

But behind closed doors, the President is being urged to speak to Prince Mohammed Bin Salman about ending the civil war in Yemen, which has led to the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.

While Yemen is on the brink of starvation, in neighbouring Syria, the fighting has now entered its eighth year and there’s still no end in sight.

Millions have been made homeless, hundreds of thousands have been killed and thousands more are still without food and trapped in rebel enclaves.

The ABC’s Middle East correspondent Sophie McNeill has seen the horrors of the region’s multiple wars first hand but after three years she’s leaving her post and returning home.
