The latest Mideast flare-up between Israel and Palestine holds particular importance for Shepparton resident Reverend Joan Fisher.
Over recent days, conflict in the region has escalated with about 60 Palestinian protesters shot and killed by Israeli armed forces and thousands reportedly injured.
The now retired Rev Fisher, of the Uniting Church, spent time living in Palestine, monitoring the plight of local Christians.
‘‘I was in the West Bank for three months, living in east Jerusalem… the Christian churches of Palestine had asked for help. They felt that people across the world had forgotten they existed,’’ she said.
Christians caught up in a conflict dominated by the Jewish and Muslim faiths are rarely reported on.
‘‘They were saying ‘people have forgotten us — we need someone to come and see what life is like for us and then we need people to go home and tell the story’,’’ Rev Fisher said.
