Roseanne Barr has claimed the racist tweet that led to the cancellation of her top-rating television reboot was actually about “anti-semitism”.
The backpedalling is the latest in a string of comments from the embattled TV star, who last month courted controversy by tweeting that a former Obama administration aide looked like the offspring of the “Muslim brotherhood and Planet of the Apes“.
After initially apologising for her “stupid” joke, the actress has since returned to social media to say she is sick of the fallout. On Friday, the TV personality went as far as to say her original tweet wasn’t meant to be a racial slur at all.
“Rod Serling wrote Planet of the Apes,” she wrote. “It was about anti-semitism. That is what my tweet referred to – the anti-semitism of the Iran deal. Low IQ people can think whatever they want.
