Former Liberal Party deputy state director Richard Shields has put his hand up to contest the preselection race in Wentworth between Paddington Liberal branch president Andrew Bragg and former Australian ambassador to Israel Dave Sharma.
Mr Shields, the only Jewish candidate in an electorate where 12 per cent are of Jewish background, is a Woollahra councillor and father-of-three who manages government relations for the Insurance Council of Australia.
Mr Shields will be battling favourite Mr Bragg; Mr Sharma, who has copped criticism because he does not live in the seat; former member Peter King; and local councillors Mary Lou Jarvis and Catherine O’Regan.
