As expected, the Prime Minister has announced that Australia is recognising West Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
However, at this stage our embassy will remain where it currently is, in Tel Aviv – though the move will go ahead once a settlement on a two-state solution has been reached.
Speaking in Sydney, Mr Morrison said he believes this position respects both Australia’s commitment to a two-state solution and longstanding respect for relevant UN Security Council resolutions
He was strongly critical of the numerous UN resolutions which were critical of Israel.
“We regard the biased and unfair targeting of Israel in the General Assembly of the UN as deeply unhelpful to efforts to build peace and stability”.
He says the Assembly is the place where Israel is bullied and anti-semitism is cloaked in the language of human rights.
