Netanyahu could be granted immunity from prosecution on corruption charges

Israel’s incumbent Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could be granted immunity from prosecution on corruption charges, after he forms a new government in the coming weeks.

A far right party supporting Mr Netanyahu is proposing the measure, as part of coalition negotiations, most likely in exchange for significant policies to benefit Jewish settlers in the Palestinian territories.

But the Prime Minister could have some help in legitimising an annexation of parts of the West Bank from the Trump Administration, which is due to release its Middle East Peace Plan now that Israel’s election is over.

Mr Netanyahu was declared the clear winner of Israel’s election after appearing to be neck and neck with his strongest competitor yesterday.
