Bringing lasting peace to the Middle East has evaded world leaders since biblical times.
Today rockets are still regularly fired from Palestinian territory into Israel. And Israeli war planes respond with bombs of their own.
White House senior adviser Jared Kushner is the latest political leader to attempt to bring an end to one of the world’s longest running conflicts. His peace plan is almost two years in the making and remains under wraps. But Kushner appears set to unveil his plan in June. And the world can only hope he will succeed where so many others have failed.
One thing is clear about the plan already. No side is going to get everything they want.
Trump peace plan
Kushner has encouraged ambassadors to keep an ‘open mind’ regarding US President Donald Trump’s Middle East peace proposal, stating that both sides need to make compromises, a source said.
Kushner also said that the peace plan will be revealed after Israel forms a governing coalition after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s election win. This will also be after Ramadan, the Muslim holy month, ending at the beginning of June, the source said.
‘We will all have to look for reasonable compromises that will make peace achievable,’ Kushner said, according to the source, who asked to remain anonymous, RAW reports.
Kushner is married to Ivanka Trump, the president’s daughter and is also one of the leading architects of the peace proposal. He spoke to roughly 100 ambassadors from around the globe at Blair House, situated across the road from the White House.
