Last week, Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu (pictured above right), named an existing settlement in the controversial Golan Heights region after the US President.
The Heights is an area bordering Lebanon, Syria and Jordan, and was taken by Israel in 1967 during the Third Arab-Israeli War.
While Israel considers the region part of its state, much of the international community considers it “occupied territory” – but in a controversial move, Trump formally recognised Israel’s sovereignty over the area in March of this year.
Netanyahu unveiled the new sign for the community (originally called Beruchim, home to roughly 10 people), complete with intertwined Israeli and US flags – saying the announcement honoured Mr Trump as “a very great friend of the State of Israel.”
