ABC upholds complaint by pro-Palestinian activist

At the beginning of July the ABC was geed up by the possibility of Israel declaring sovereignty over a part of the West Bank.

Samah Sabawi invited herself to write a pro-Palestinian piece for the ABC Religion and Ethics report and she produced an article titled ‘If Israel’s planned annexation goes ahead, can any response make a difference?

Bren Carlill, Zionist Federation of Australia public affairs director, also was commissioned to write an article responsing to Sabawi and it was published 4 hours after Sabawi’s piece with the title ‘Peace is not served by denying complexity: A response to Samah Sabawi‘.

Apparently somebody without Samah Sabawi’s express permission received a copy of the article by Samah Sabawi before its publication and passed it on to the Zionist Federation of Australia without her knowledge or consent. Bren Carlill at the Zionist Federation of Australia was then commissioned to write a response.

Samah Sabawi’s complaint to the ABC over this incident has been upheld.
