Donald Trump has ‘blazed a trail’ in Middle-East which Biden will be forced to follow

Former Australian ambassador to Israel and Liberal MP Dave Sharma says a Biden administration would continue to “help foster a broader peace” in the Middle-East which has been established by President Trump.

“The big innovation of the Trump administration in the Middle-East is to see that peace between Israel and the Arab world can happen outside of the Palestinian national cause and then move in towards it,” Mr Sharma told Sky News. President Trump brokered historic peace deals between Israel and the UAE, Bahrain, and Sudan marking a move away from the conventional thinking of negotiating peace between Israel and the Arab world.”

Former Secretary of State John Kerry said when he was US envoy to Israel that peace could never be achieved between Tel Aviv and the broader Arab community unless it had first been achieved with Palestine. “The Trump administration has basically flipped that assumption around,” Mr Sharma said.

“Now that he’s blazed that trail … I would think that the Biden administration would want to continue this and continue to help foster a broader peace in the Middle East through this approach.”
