Neo-nazis from the so-called National Socialist Network hide their identities as they give the ‘fascist salute’ outside the Adelaide Holocaust Museum

Nazi hate groups to be investigated by parliament as celebrated Peter Drew artwork is vandalised

Hate groups have vandalised an acclaimed Kent Town mural – but the government has announced it will move on the growing sea of cowards.

One Nation MLC Sarah Game will head an inquiry into the rise of neo-nazi and other extremist groups in South Australia.

A select committee of the Legislative Council was announced on Friday after a series of nazi-inspired incidents in SA.

Ms Game has been at the forefront of attempts to ban Nazi hate symbols such as the swastika, even in tattoo designs.

But this year Labor thwarted a Bill put to parliament by Ms Game to ban Nazi symbols — as in other Australian states — while also saying it was working on its own ban.

The government acted after it emerged this week a neo-nazi group had posted a photo of its members giving the “fascist salute” in front of the Adelaide Holocaust Museum, in what has been described as a “vile act of anti-semitism”.

Another group earlier this year stormed and temporarily took control of an Onkaparinga Council meeting.

Ms Game said her Bill would be put on hold for the duration of the investigation.

“This is a welcome step towards a productive and effective relationship with Labor. There are many other ideas and topics I hope to work on together in future,’’ she said.

Attorney-General Kyam Maher hinted that the state government wanted as an outcome of her inquiry a more robust version of the Game Bill.
