Hundreds of anti-Nazi protesters have rallied in the city’s west in response to a planned white-only event at a controversial gym.

About 300 anti-Nazi protesters have marched through the streets of Melbourne’s west in response to a two day white supremacy event organised at a Sunshine gym.

Run by the Campaign Against Racism and Fascism (CARF), protesters marched up Fairbairn Rd towards the notorious Legacy Boxing gym, believed to be the base of neo-Nazi group National Socialist Network, chanting “Nazis are not welcome here” and “migrants are welcome here”.

The protest was organised in response to flyers promoting a white-only nationalist power lifting event at the gym.

Protesters ended up in front of a police barricade around the corner from the gym.

Rally organiser Jasmine Duff said the protest was about “fighting against racism and bigotry”.

“Neo-nazis are desperately trying to build a following, and they’re doing it in the heart of one of Melbourne’s most multicultural suburbs,” she said.

“We’re fighting for a world where no one has to live in fear of fascism, racism or oppression”.

“Their aim, as always, is to draw in more angry, violent men and build a movement that preaches hate, discrimination and violence against the rest of Australia.
