A knife-wielding man has targeted a group of Jewish students, calling himself a Nazi and yelling anti-Semitic slurs in Elsternwick.
About 10 Leibler Yavneh College students were on a public bus when a man began acting erratically and shouting offensive remarks on Thursday.
It’s understood the man called himself a Nazi before he pulled a sharp knife from his bag about 4.15pm.
The terrified students were let off the bus near the corner of Orrong and Glen Huntly roads.
Police arrived on scene and were unable to locate the victims or the offender after patrols in the area.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said officers were making further inquires into the incident.
“No official reports have been made to police but further inquiries are being made,” she said.
“There is absolutely no place at all in our society for anti-sematic or hate-based behaviour and Victoria Police is committed to responding to any such acts.”
In a letter to parents, principal Shula Lazar said the welfare of the students was a top priority.
“All students in years 7 to 12 will receive a briefing Friday morning during assembly from Community Security Group Victoria, focused on personal safety,” she said.
“We have also arranged for a non-mandatory debrief with a clinic psychologist between 12pm and 1pm for all students who were on the bus and provide additional support on an individual needs basis.”
