Jerome Laxale’s WeChat account in the spotlight for linking No vote to the Nazis

Chinese-Australian voters have been told that if they did not support the Voice to Parliament they would be seen as being in favour of “war” and “Nazis” by a social media account which purports to be authorised by a local North Sydney MP.

Chinese-Australian voters have been told that if they did not support the Voice to Parliament they would be seen as being in favour of “war” and “Nazis” by a social media account which purports to be authorised by a local North Sydney MP.

The comments, which have been branded “condescending”, were made in a WeChat group for locals in the Bennelong electorate by an account apparently operated by Labor MP Jerome Laxale’s office.

In screenshots of the discussion, which took place on September 29, the ‘Laxale account’ said, “If we look at who is calling for the (no) vote, we will find that their leaders are Peter Dutton, who loves to peddle war, and Pauline Hanson, who is against Asian immigrants.”

Referring to neo-Nazis who oppose the Voice, the account continued, “The Nazi group certainly did not represent everyone, but their interests were the same”.

“The logic of this is not hard to understand.”

The account was not suggesting Mr Dutton and Ms Hanson were neo-Nazis.
