4 week course (August 31, September 7, 14, 21)

In Eating History, the University of New South Wales’ Dr Ruth Balint will recount the history of Jewish migration to Australia through the lens of women and homemaking.

Starting with the great departure of refugees from Europe during the Nazi period and its aftermath, this four-week course will explore the gendered experience of resettlement and the ways women sought to challenge, manipulate and preserve their history and identities through recipes and food.

Our case studies will include food, cookbooks and the domestic lives of Jewish women during the heyday of Australian assimilation.

Please be advised that bookings for this series will close at 12.30pm Monday 31 August, with the Zoom link emailed thereafter.
