The Victorian teaching regulator has leaked a confidential document that publicly exposed the identity of a complainant, causing them to be relentlessly bullied and ostracised, Fairfax Media can reveal.
In a major privacy breach that has been investigated by Victoria Police, the Victorian Ombudsman and the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA), the teaching regulator has admitted to releasing an unredacted copy of a private complaint about a former principal at the ultra-Orthodox Jewish school, Yeshivah College.
The Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) released a 2012 complaint to the VRQA, which alleged the former school principal Rabbi Abraham Glick failed to report allegations of child sexual abuse to police made against two former school employees, David Kramer and David Cyprys. Kramer and Cyprys have been convicted of child abuse and are serving jail sentences.
The document, which exposed the victim’s name, address and phone number, was given to Rabbi Glick and allegedly distributed at a synagogue by another community member.
