A festive Purim party will be held at the Ballarat Synagogue on Sunday from 5pm.
The party is aimed at celebrating Interfaith harmony with Ballarat’s Jewish community.
There will be a BYO vegetarian kosher meal, and an optional donation to charity will be collected.
Ballarat is home to the oldest synagogue in mainland Australia, which is located at 2 Barkly Street, Ballarat East.
Purim celebrations commemorate the Jewish people’s deliverance from death around the fourth century BCE, as told in the Book of Esther.
It’s usually celebrated on the 14th day of the month of Adar in the Jewish calendar, which is in February or March.
