A Hamas military court has sentenced two drug dealers from the Gaza Strip to death, the first time capital punishment has been given for such an offence,.
In addition to the death sentences, two other drug dealers on Sunday were sentenced to at least seven years in prison, according to Nasser Suleiman, head of the military judiciary in the coastal enclave.
While Hamas courts have issued death sentences in cases involving murder or treason before, Sunday’s sentences mark the first time since the Islamic movement forcibly took over the Gaza Strip in 2007 that drug dealers have had to face such a penalty.
