JOE BARRINGTON is one of the last few spitfire pilots who fought in World War II and has one message for future generations — avoid conflict at all costs.
The 96-year-old from Vaucluse joined the Australian air force when he turned 21 and went on to fly a total of 52 missions across the world.
“I chose the air force,” the veteran said.
“I thought it was important.”
Mr Barrington marched on Anzac Day every year when good health allowed.
“I marched out of respect for all those who passed,” he said.
