Two teenagers – one from country Victoria and the other, half a world away in Israel – have been charged over two separate series of bomb hoaxes to schools across Australia.
The Victorian boy, a 17-year-old from Mildura, was arrested on Thursday and charged with 74 offences, including nine counts of making bomb hoaxes in Victoria, 13 counts of using a carriage service to make a hoax threat in NSW and 49 counts of that same charge in South Australia.
Police say the hoaxes, made via phone calls, were made to various educational facilities throughout the three states between May 2016 and April 2017.
The arrest was a result of an extensive investigation between Victoria Police’s E-Crime Squad, NSW Fraud and Cybercrime and South Australia’s police electronic crime section.
