TWO Jewish community groups banned an event they believed seemed to “foment fear and hatred” and presented a security risk to the venues.
The Beth Weizmann Community Centre and the Mizrachi Organisation cancelled the “Threat of Islam to Jews” speaking event after both received complaints.
The Beth Weizmann centre chair Sam Tatarka said they were not prepared to be associated with “an event that on its face, seeks to foment fear and hatred”.
A regular speaker with the anti-Islamic Q Society, Mark Durie, and David Adler — an active member of Sydney’s orthodox Jewish community — were booked to speak about passages that disparage the Jewish faith.
