Compassion is a song cycle for voice and orchestra, drawing on Jewish and Islamic writings and poetry..
Created by two of Australia’s finest musicians – composer and conductor Nigel Westlake and singer-songwriter Lior – it celebrates what they see is the liberating power of compassion and kindness.
It’s a work that grew out of a terrible personal tragedy when Nigel Westlake’s son, Eli, was run down and killed in 2008.
A year later at an anniversary concert for Eli, Nigel heard Lior sing the Jewish prayer, Avinu Malkeinu.
