Soccer bosses in Italy have announced excerpts of Anne Franks’ diary will be read aloud before matches this weekend.
The move comes after fans of Rome side Lazio displayed shocking displays of anti-Semitism last weekend.
Ultra right-wing supporters littered the Stadio Olimpico, the ground they share with Roma, with images of the young diarist who died in the Holocaust, wearing a jersey of their bitter city rivals
Stadium cleaners found the anti-Semitic stickers on Monday and Italian police have opened a criminal inquiry into the case.
The diary passage reading will be combined with a minute’s silence before Serie A, B and C matches plus amateur and youth games over the weekend, to promote Holocaust remembrance.
