Accused child sex abuser Malka Leifer to remain in jail after appeal against house arrest upheld

A MELBOURNE school principal accused of child sex crimes will remain in an Israeli mental health prison after a successful prosecution appeal against her release to home detention.

The Israeli High court overnight ruled that former principal Malka Leifer would not be granted bail and would remain incarcerated until a ruling on her extradition is made.

Leifer, 54, is wanted by Victorian police after being accused of abusing female students at the Adass Israel School in Elsternwick in Melbourne.

Manny Waks, chief executive of local advocacy group Kol v’Oz, welcomed the verdict.
