At least eight rebel held towns in Syria’s south have returned to government control as the area comes under a campaign of intense bombardment from the Assad regime, forcing more than 160-thousand people to flee their homes.
The crisis now threatens to embroil Israel as thousands of displaced Syrians head toward the Israel-controlled Golan Heights border seeking refuge.
The Israeli military has delivered aid to Syrian refugees fleeing the latest fighting but says it won’t allow civilians to enter Israel.
It’s a position which Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has held since the fighting began in Syria in 2011.
