Tim Anderson is under investigation for supporting a former colleague’s decision to wear an offensive patch.
University of Sydney academic Tim Anderson is under investigation after coming to the defence of a former colleague photographed wearing a controversial patch, the Sydney Morning Herald reported last week.
Dr Anderson, senior lecturer in political economy, came out in defence of his former co-worker and current USyd PhD candidate Jay Tharappel.
Mr Tharappel was accused of anti-semitism after Channel 7 reported on a photograph of him wearing a jacket with a patch featuring the Yemeni Houthi (Ansar Allah) slogan, which contains the line “Curse on the Jews””. Translated from Arabic, the patch reads, “God is the greatest, death to America, death to Israel, curse on the Jews, victory to Islam.”
