Six Palestinians die after border protests

Israeli forces have shot dead six Palestinians, four of them in a single incident, in one of the deadliest days in months of mass protests along the security fence separating Gaza and Israel, Gaza’s health ministry said.

The ministry said four were killed in one location on Friday, where the Israeli military said it opened fire on a crowd of Palestinians who breached the fence and approached an army post.

Israeli military spokesman Lt. Col Jonathan Conricus tweeted that one group had “detonated a bomb on the Israel-Gaza border fence”, allowing around 20 people to climb through the hole.

He said around five of the group had then launched an organised attack against a military post inside Israel and all had been killed by the troops.

Gaza medics said that, in addition to the dead, around 140 others were wounded. No Israeli troops were harmed, the army added.
