PM Scott Morrison open to moving Israel embassy to Jerusalem

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has signalled he’s prepared to move Australia’s embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, following the Trump Administration’s lead which formally recognised the city as the legitimate capital of Israel earlier this year.

If Australia does move its embassy it would be only the third country to do so after the US and Guatemala.

The Prime Minister is also expected to announce today an inquiry into whether Australia should abandon its support for the Iran nuclear deal, which the US has also dumped, overturning positions held by the former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

The announcements come just days ahead of the crucial Wentworth by-election where the Liberal candidate is former Ambassador to Israel, Dave Sharma, and where nearly 13 per cent of voters are Jewish.
