The Israeli military said its aircraft fired upon three Palestinians who approached the Gaza perimeter fence on Sunday, Gaza time, and “were apparently involved in placing an improvised explosive device adjacent” to the fence.
The Gaza border area has been a hotspot of clashes since Palestinians started staging protests there in March.
The demonstrations, which often include stone-throwing and other violent acts, are aimed at pressuring Israel into lifting an over decade-long blockade on the coastal enclave.
Protesters also say that they want to return to lands Palestinians fled during the war that marked Israel’s creation in 1948.
