Israel’s military says it’s finished a major operation to locate and destroy “attack” tunnels dug under its northern frontier with Lebanon.
The tunnels were built by the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, which was reportedly planning to use them to seize Israeli towns and villages if a fresh conflict broke out.
Listen to the report by Eric Tlozek on the Correspondents Report.
[Editor: This ABC report finally the subject of the northern ‘attack’ tunnels that the ABC has failed to address since a report that the ABC published on November that was strongly criticised for lack of impartiality and accuracy.
I have personally lodged a complaint with the ABC over its omission of any report till now about the discovery of the tunnels remarking “as a consequence of its total lack of coverage of the discovery of now 4 attack tunnels penetrating into Israel, (the ABC) has continued to fail in its obligations as our national news provider. There has been no reportage by the ABC of this significant news, which demonstrates the on-going failure of the ABC to be reporting comprehensively about this hotspot, thus failing to keep ABC listeners aware of the dangerous, volatile situation developing in the area. “
On this score the response from the ABC was glib and inadequate:
“With regard to your concern that the ABC has not comprehensively covered all aspects of this conflict, it is important to recognise that coverage will be influenced by a number of issues, including the day to day news agenda and relevance to an Australian audience. “
A month ago as it became more and more evident that Hezbollah had constructed a number of tunnels under the ‘blue line’ between Israel and Lebanon in contravention of UN Security Council resolution 1701 reputable media outlets like the BBC, The Washington Post, The Times of Israel and even SBS published reports but the ABC continued to say nothing until now.
Not good enough.]
