UN relief body in damage control after corruption allegations

The main United Nations body which helps Palestinian refugees is in damage control, after serious allegations against its most senior staff were revealed in the media.

The director of the UN Relief and Works Agency, which supports more than five million Palestinians, has been accused of abusing his power and other senior staff, including an Australian man, face allegations of nepotism and not following UN procedures.

The allegations hit the organisation at a time when it is already facing immense political and financial pressure, after its biggest donor, the United States cut all its funding.
