Netanyahu retains Likud party leadership after vote

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has survived a challenge for the leadership of his Likud party.

The country’s longest serving leader faced down contender Gideon Sa’ar in the first real challenge to his leadership in more than a decade.

Netanyahu won more than 70 per cent of the support of Likud party members despite being indicted for corruption a month ago.
