Police investigating John Casley over coronavirus conspiracy theory flyers

Police have launched an investigation into whether “serial peddler of conspiracy theories” John Tiger Casley breached lockdown laws to distribute alarming flyers.

The pamphlets, which claimed coronavirus was “a scam” and a “plandemic” were dropped into hundreds of letterboxes throughout Elwood, Elsternwick, Brighton, Beaumaris, as well as further afield in Coburg.

The leaflets link to Mr Casley’s Protector Party homepage, which includes largely incoherent ramblings linking the virus death toll to 5G and anti-Semitic rants calling Zionism “evil”.

The Leader understands police are now investigating whether Mr Casley breached restrictions to disseminate the material, including venturing more than 5km away from his Brighton home or leaving home for more than the allowed one-hour exercise limit.

The Leader is not suggesting Ms Casley has breached restrictions.

Anti-Defamation Commission chairman Dvir Abramovich said it was “unacceptable” Mr Casley had continued to “spread his poison freely and without consequence”.

“We welcome this police investigation into this demagogue of hate that keeps invading our suburbs with his cesspool of ugly conspiracy theories,” he said.

“The residents of Brighton, Caulfield and Coburg should not be constantly subjected to the extremist and ugly rhetoric and anti-Semitic rhetoric spewed by Mr Casley.”
