The FBI has called out Iran for US election interference, just days after spam emails began appearing, prompting some voters to alert authorities. The emails purport to be from the white supremacist group, The Proud Boys, and demand a vote for Donald Trump. John Scott-Railton says unlike the slow response of authorities in 2016 to election interference, this has been a quick response. But more transparency is needed so voters can have confidence in the evidence that Iran is behind the campaign. He also says the exact intent of the campaign remains unknown, as is the number of voters who have received the emails, and the reaction of many voters in seeing the emails, describing the citizens of 2020 as “lab rats” in a giant cyber experiment.
