Thai officials have confirmed the prisoners are three Iranians who were involved in a botched bomb plot in Bangkok in 2012.
Their plot was exposed after an accidental explosion in their rented house, which resulted in the legs of one of the men being blown off.
Israeli and Thai officials have said the plot was aimed at Israeli diplomats in Bangkok — though Iran denied the allegations and the men were never charged with terrorism.
Yes, Australia has rewarded hostage diplomacy.
And what does it say about Iran and Australia’s respective views on freedom that Iran would let one innocent woman go only if three of its sordid own were freed?
