Earlier this month, actress Gina Carano was fired from The Mandalorian cast amid widespread online controversy over a social media post that likened the experience of Jews in the Holocaust to the US political climate.
In the since-deleted Instagram post, Carano wrote, “Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbours…. even by children.”
“Because history is edited, most people today don’t realise that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbours hate them simply for being Jews.”
Carano, a former MMA fighter and actress, portrayed the bounty hunter Cara Dune. In the aftermath of the social media maelstrom, the actress was dropped by her agency UTA and fired from The Mandalorian by Lucasfilm.
In a recent interview with former New York Times writer Bari Weiss, Carano has shed light on her dismissal from the franchise, revealing that she only found out about her firing via social media.
The actress claims that her relationship with Lucasfilm was on edge prior to the controversial post. Carano acknowledged that Disney had already taken Carano off the promotional tours for season 2 of the cult series for a number of social media posts.
